Repair, Restore, Rejoin with the Dry Creek Conservatory

The week of April 6-13th has been designated “creek week” and is a time to focus on repairing the many fragile riparian ecosystems that dot the Central Valley. Getting out into the local, natural world and learning its way is an important part of learning how best to defend it.

Placer County’s Dry Creek Coneservatory is hosting these events- feel free to add more in events happening in your local area in the comments below.

Secret Ravine Fish Passage Project Saturday April 6th 9:00 am – noon
Maintain riparian plantings of this complete restoration near the mouth of Secret Ravine.
Meet at the UA Theaters parking lot off Eureka Rd, 520 N. Sunrise in Roseville.
Sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat are suggested, as well as water and snacks. Gloves will be provided.

Miners Ravine Nature Reserve Restoration
Saturday, April 13th, 9am to noon
Care for more than 550 native plantings at this major restoration project including weeding, adding mulch, and repairing drip irrigation.
Sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat are suggested, as well as water and snacks. Gloves will be provided.
Meet at Miners Ravine Nature Reserve parking lot 7530 Auburn Folsom Road, Granite Bay, CA 95746, approximately eight-tenths of a mile north of Douglas Blvd on Auburn-Folsom Road.

Kaseberg Creek Restoration Project, Mahany Park, Roseville
Saturday, April 20th, 9am – noon
Weeding, mulching, and other maintenance of these very successful plantings from past years.
Meet at the footbridge behind Martha Riley Library at 1545 Pleasant Grove Blvd in Roseville.
Sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat are suggested. Gloves will be provided.

Auburn Ravine Park Planting Maintenance
Saturday, April 20th, 9am – noon
Weeding, spreading mulch, and repairing drip irrigation, tree stakes, and wire cages at this multi-year tree planting.
Please bring shovels, rakes, hoes, wheelbarrows, and 5-gallon buckets.
The park is between Highway 65 and Joiner Parkway – entrances on Green Ravine Dr. and the end of Moore Rd.
Sturdy shoes, long pants, gloves, sun block, bug repellent, and a hat are suggested. Water provided.

Antelope Community Planting Project
Tuesday morning April 23rd
Antelope High School classes will meet at Oslo Ct. to work with Dry Creek Conservancy, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Sacramento Area Creeks Council for maintenance of native oaks planted to reforest the Sierra Creek drainage tributary to Dry Creek.

Native Birds and Wildflowers of Roseville
Sunday April 27th, 9 to 11:30am. All ages welcome.
Join local Naturalist Scott Dietrich for a very easy walk through Miners Ravine at the best time to see birds and wildflowers. The lilies and the lupines should be showcasing their best colors and local and migratory birds such as Warblers and Flycatchers will be singing. Expect to learn a little natural history of the local flora and fauna and enjoy this splendid time of year.
Wear shoes to hike in, bring water and binoculars if you have them.
